This Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) applies to anything you host or send through Thoth. Breaches can result in suspension or termination under our Terms of Service.
1. The spirit of it
Don't use Thoth to harm people, break the law, or interfere with the operation of the network. We're a small business hosting other small businesses — we want our infrastructure used for honest work.
2. No illegal content
You may not use Thoth to host, transmit, or link to:
- Content that breaks Australian law or the law of the jurisdiction in which the content is published.
- Child sexual abuse material. Reported immediately to law enforcement.
- Content that infringes copyright, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights.
- Material that incites violence or promotes terrorism.
- Fraudulent schemes, including phishing pages, fake storefronts, or financial scams.
3. No harm to others
- No harassment, threats, doxxing, or content targeting individuals or groups for abuse.
- No content that defames identifiable people or organisations.
- No deceptive content that impersonates a real person or business.
4. No spam or abuse
- No unsolicited bulk email (UBE) sent from your mailbox or your hosted site.
- No mailing list practices that violate the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) — consent, identification, unsubscribe.
- No open relays, open proxies, or services designed to anonymise abuse.
5. No security violations
- No port scanning, vulnerability scanning, or penetration testing of third parties from our infrastructure (your own systems with written permission are fine — tell us first).
- No distribution of malware, ransomware, or material designed to compromise other systems.
- No deliberate attempts to bypass authentication, access controls, or usage limits on our infrastructure.
- No cryptocurrency mining without prior written agreement — it's not a fit for shared hosting.
6. Resource use
Shared Hosting and Managed sites run on shared infrastructure. Sustained high CPU, RAM, or I/O that affects other clients on the same machine will get a friendly email asking you to upgrade to Enterprise or move to a dedicated VPS. If usage is genuinely emergent (a sudden press hit, for example), we'll always work with you in good faith.
7. How we enforce this
If we believe content breaks this policy, our response is proportionate to the severity:
- Most cases: an email asking you to remove or fix the content within a reasonable time.
- Serious cases: immediate suspension of the affected resource pending review.
- Severe cases (CSAM, active malware distribution, ongoing attacks): immediate suspension and, where required, a report to law enforcement.
You can always reply, explain context, and have the matter reviewed by Tom personally before any final action.
8. Reporting abuse
If you've encountered something on a Thoth-hosted site that breaches this policy, email abuse@thoth.au with the URL and a short description. Reports are reviewed within one business day.
Plain-English summary: don't do illegal, hostile, or deceptive things from a Thoth-hosted server. We'll always email before we act. Questions: hello@thoth.au.
